How we calculate your star mapWhat is a personalized star map?
A personalized star map is a chart of the sky above a particular place at a particular date and time. Add your own title and dedication to turn that sky into a birthday, wedding, anniversary, or new baby keepsake.
Is my star map really free to download?
Yes. Download a high-resolution PNG without a watermark, account, or email signup. All sixteen styles are included. If a tip option is available, it is always optional.
How accurate is the sky on my date?
Star positions are calculated using astronomy-engine and a Hipparcos star catalog. The map includes the Moon in phase and naked-eye planets above the horizon. It is a calculated sky chart, not a photograph or a record of the weather. Read our accuracy guide for sources and limitations.
What if I do not know the exact time?
Use the default evening time of 22:00 in your chosen city's local time zone. The sky changes through the night, so enter the actual time when you know it. Dates from 1900 through 2100 are supported.
Can I print the file or order a framed star map?
You can print the PNG at home or at a local print shop. Choose A3, 12 × 16, 8 × 10, or 18 × 24 inches, with enough pixels for printing at 300 dpi at the selected size. Printed and framed orders through this website are not available yet.
Can I make a star map for anywhere in the world?
Yes. Search for a city and select the matching location. Its coordinates and time zone are used to calculate the sky, including locations in the Southern Hemisphere. The designer is currently in English.
