Updated 13 September 2026

Real Star Map provides free star maps and a birthday Moon calculator. No account or email is required. lets you review optional analytics. Learn how Google uses information at Google’s Business Data Responsibility site.

Your maps, dates and downloads

Maps and PNG downloads are calculated on your device. The designer stores its current settings in the page URL and saves the last design in your browser’s local storage under starmap:last. This can include your selected date, time, city, coordinates and personal text. Browser storage remains until it is replaced or you clear this site’s data.

A designer link reveals its settings to anyone who receives it. URLs may also be visible in browser history and to servers handling a request. We do not provide a server database or a public gallery of saved personal maps. Avoid putting sensitive information in your dedication or sharing a link you want to keep private.

The birthday Moon calculator keeps inputs in page memory. They are not added to its URL or saved as a birthday record. Opening the star map designer transfers the selected date and any selected location into a designer URL. A card you export contains the date and time shown on it.

City searches and hosting

City searches go through our server to Open-Meteo Geocoding. The upstream service receives the city search text from our server. Search responses can be cached for an hour, including through the application’s fetch cache. The application keeps an in-memory copy of search responses and uses IP addresses and recent request timestamps to limit excessive requests.

The configured deployment uses a Hetzner server behind Caddy. Hosting and network systems process information needed to deliver requests, such as IP addresses, requested URLs and browser headers. The application does not deliberately write personal design data to a dedicated log, but infrastructure or error logs may contain request details. Browser-only file generation does not make visits anonymous. See Open-Meteo’s terms and privacy information.

Optional Google Analytics

When configured, Google Analytics loads only after you accept analytics. We use it to understand page visits and actions such as calculating a Moon phase or generating a download. Google may process identifiers, device/browser information and network information to provide these reports. This processing may involve Google systems outside your country.

Our integration excludes personal dates, coordinates, city searches, names, dedications and personalized URLs. Page addresses are reduced to known site routes, page titles are fixed, and referrers are reduced to their origin. Automatic enhanced measurement and advertising features are not part of this integration.

Analytics uses first-party cookies whose names begin with _ga. We configure these cookies for up to 180 days. Your accept/reject choice is stored separately as starmap:analytics-consent:v1 for up to 180 days. If browser storage is blocked, the choice lasts only for the current page session.

You can reject analytics without losing access to any tool. Changing your choice to reject stops collection and removes Analytics cookies accessible to this site. It does not erase information already received by Google. .

Advertising and external links

This release does not serve display advertising. If advertising is introduced, this notice and the consent controls will be updated first. Links to other websites have their own privacy practices. If an optional support-payment link is available and you use it, the payment provider handles that visit and payment.

Control and contact

You can clear saved designs and privacy choices by clearing this site’s browser data. Close a birthday Moon page to discard its in-memory inputs, and delete downloaded files from your device if you no longer want them.
